Roger Goodro

GoodroRoger Goodro’s life journey began March 26, 1939, with a family of loggers and fisherman. He lived his life with honor and dignity.  He served our country in the Marine Corps and forever held his standards high.  Roger passed away peacefully with family close by on Friday, June 26, 2015.

His summers were spent in Alaska from the time he was about 10 as a commercial fisherman with his father and later on other boats.  In the off season he set chokers behind a steam donkey in his father's logging camp, was a long-haul truck driver moving trailer homes from factory to their destination, ran heavy equipment on the Alaskan pipeline at Valdez and mining for gold up there, and owner/operator of a wrecking yard.  He was instrumental in helping to start the Shelton Drag Strip in the 60's.

He was primary caregiver to his loving wife, Dottie, during her final years battling Alzheimer's in Florida.

His final leg of the journey began some 9 months ago with the news of cancer; as with any Marine, Roger fought with courage.

He was known for his sense of humor, his love of all animals, and always having a cold Bud.  He enjoyed many hours with his "crew" at the 40 et 8 and the Shelton Pub, checking out the games, races and discussing life in general.  A man of few words but full of love, he will be missed by many, but not forgotten.

Roger married Janice M. Smith, deceased, Karin Anderson, ended in divorce and Dorothy M Silva, deceased.

He is survived by 3 daughters: Kim Brantley (Rich), Redmond, OR; Michelle Starr, Salem, OR; and Margaret Goodro, Anchorage AK; 3 sisters: Loretta Lindsey; Valerie Huisingh (Ray); and Vickie Schreiber (Glen); a brother: Greg Bina, all of Shelton and several grandchildren & nieces and nephews.  Roger is now reunited with his loving wife, Dottie, his sister, Yvonne Claussen, and his mother and father.

Cremation by Funeral Alternatives, Tumwater, WA.  A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to ACS & mailed to Valerie Huisingh, Relay for Life, 271 E Beil Road, Shelton, WA 98584
